Advanced Physical Therapy with Dr. Loretta Dougan PT DPT, Cert DN Integrative Dry Needling, USDN, Kinesio Taping & Manual Therapy

This custom musculoskeletal treatment session is designed to assess and address pain patterns, movement limitations, and physical dysfunction through a hands-on, clinical approach.

Following a thorough evaluation, Dr. Loretta develops a personalized treatment plan focused on the underlying causes of pain and dysfunction. Treatment may include heat therapy, manual therapy, deep tissue mobilization, scar tissue release, dry needling, Kinesio taping, corrective exercise, and other integrative techniques designed to reduce pain, restore function, and support long-term healing. The goal is not only to relieve symptoms but to address the root cause whenever possible.

Therapeutic Modalities

  • Dry Needling / Ultrasound-Guided Dry Needling (USGDN): Precise placement of sterile needles into specific areas of tissue dysfunction is key to stimulating the body’s natural healing response. Ultrasound guidance allows for enhanced accuracy when targeting affected muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues, helping to reduce pain, restore function, and promote optimal healing.
  • Deep Tissue Mobilization & Myofascial Release: Manual therapy techniques designed to improve tissue mobility, restore proper alignment of muscle fibers, and address musculoskeletal trigger points. Treatment helps reduce adhesions and scar tissue that may restrict movement, impair biomechanics, or contribute to pain and dysfunction, ultimately promoting improved mobility, function, and overall tissue health.
  • Kinesio Taping:  A therapeutic technique used to facilitate or inhibit muscle activity, improve support, and promote proper movement patterns. Kinesio taping can be an excellent alternative for clients who are sensitive to or prefer to avoid dry needling, while still providing targeted support for pain relief and functional improvement.
  • E-Stim (Electrical Stimulation): Often used in conjunction with dry needling to enhance nerve conduction, stimulate muscle activation, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing process. This combination therapy can help reduce pain, improve function, and accelerate recovery.
  • CBD oil & pain relief Balm: Assists in decreasing chronic inflammation, soothe muscle systems and pain surrounding areas of client concern.
  • Cupping Therapy:  Supports release of scar tissue, promotes increased blood flow assisting in the body’s natural detoxification process.
  • Therapeutic Hot Packs:  Warm, nourishing heat to increase circulation, relax muscles to promote reception of healing process.
  • Home Exercise Program: Customized Home Exercise Program (HEP) provided via email in a printable format. Each program is tailored to your specific needs and designed to support healing through targeted strengthening, stretching, and mobility exercises focused on your areas of concern.

FAQ’s

Most clients experience minimal discomfort such as localized muscle soreness which usually lasts 24-48 hours and occasional minor bruising. Many report immediate improvements in mobility and pain levels.

Treatment plans vary based on your condition, goals, and response to care. While every client is unique, most patients achieve their desired results within 2 to 8 sessions. Your treatment plan will be personalized to support your specific needs and recovery goals.

KT is used from initial injury (acute), sub-acute, chronic to rehabilitation stages of injury. It works by lifting the epidermis or first layers of your skin allowing excess fluid to release. The specific design on the back of KT mimics a fingerprint and sends signals using the neurological pathways to and from your brain to instruct or musculoskeletal system what effects are desired. Activation or Inhibit functions.

KT tape can be used in combination with manual therapies, hydrotherapy, e-stimulation, cryotherapy, Dry Needling, osteopathic injuries and rehabilitation and US.

It mimics the qualities of the superficial layer of skin, there is no latex in KT and the adhesive is heat activated by your own body heat or friction applied to KT once it has been applied. There are various cuts to the KT depending on outcomes desired. Strip/focused on stimulation, Fan or basket weave for edema, lymphoedema or pitting edema, Web to remove ecchymosis or bruising.

KT is used for Mechanical, Fascia, space, ligament/Tendon, Functional and Lymphatic Corrections.

How can it help:

  • Reduces edema post surgery, lymphedema Primary and Secondary
  • Greater Trochanteric Bursitis or any joint bursitis or tendonitis
  • Iliotibial band pain, knee/hip pain pre/post surgery
  • Muscle contusions or strains, shin splints
  • It is known to decrease pain, increase muscle/joint movements

Dry Needling is the use of sterile needles and the expertise of the Physical Therapist knowledge of the complete musculoskeletal system for proper placement of needles.

Ultrasound Guided Dry Needling uses a portable US with screen to visualize the exact location to place needles.

Electrical Stimulation (e-stim) is utilized with DN to increase mechanical receptors in the brain to enhance the healing, blood flow by correct signals to mechanical receptors sites.

Dry needling is a skilled therapeutic technique that uses thin, sterile needles to target trigger points, tight muscles, and dysfunctional tissue. It is called “dry” because no medication is injected. Dry needling performed by a trained licensed professional is based on Western medicine principles and targets soft tissue dysfunction and neurological responses.

The goal is to:

  • Reduce pain
  • Improve muscle function
  • Increase mobility
  • Decrease muscle tension
  • Accelerate recovery
  • Improve movement patters.

Dry needling is based on modern anatomy, neuroscience, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation principles.

Advanced Physical Therapy treatments are enhanced by a personalized Home Exercise Program (HEP). Gentle stretching and strengthening exercises help maintain mobility, encourage healthy movement, improve circulation, and support continued healing between sessions, extending the benefits of your treatment.

We are a cash-based spa and wellness practice and do not directly bill or accept insurance. This allows us to focus on personalized care and treatment recommendations based on your needs rather than insurance requirements.
